Scaredy Cat and some of his friends (and one of his mean brothers) have been invited to a garden party and after they've arrived, the host handed everypet a straw hat. Scaredy Cat isn't into hats and straw hats are itchy. Why do they have to wear these things? Some of the pets don't seemed very bothered by the hat, while others aren't too thrilled with this either, as is apparent in the way some have responded. They do learn that the reason for the straw hats is to celebrate Straw Hat Day, which takes place on May 15th. Really? There's an actual day to "celebrate" straw hats? Who would ever think such a thing? Well, despite the absurdity of it all, someone did create a day to commemorate this piece of headgear.

This week - it's all about the straw hat. Straw hats have been found in almost every culture throughout the world, with different styles and techniques used to make them as needed for that area’s needs. But for the art challenge - it's not required to actually have your pet wear them. The challenge is to use the tattered straw hat in any creative way you'd like. Yep - what can you and your pet do with a straw hat? Can you use it to put colorful flowers into it - using it as a planter? Of course, no garden is complete without a scarecrow and scarecrows wear some sort of straw hat! Goats eat anything, as you can see - so maybe it can serve as a tasty meal for a few of your pet friends. Have a straw hut with a damaged roof? Fix the roof with a straw hat! I bet you are clever enough to find many ways to use a straw hat in your art and cannot wait to see what you do!!
