Scaredy Cat and his classmates are listening attentively as their teacher, Mrs. Owl, shares her lesson about awareness ribbons. She explains that the use of various colored ribbons is designed to create public awareness to health, medical conditions, disability, and other issues. And that many different groups, foundations and organizations have adopted ribbons as symbols of support or awareness - as a result, various causes may often share the same, or similar, ribbon color(s). A the end of the lesson, Mrs. Owl gives the students their assignment - to pick two different colored ribbons and write a paragraph or two about what those ribbons are representing. Scaredy Cat already knows that one of his choices will be the one for Autism Awareness/Acceptance. He's not too sure what his second choice will be, but he has several days to choose it and then complete his assignment.

This week, we're talking about awareness. As Mrs. Owl explained to the pets, there are many ribbons being used to raise awareness of many different issues. Some issues you might be aware of are endometriosis, cancer, multiple sclerosis, mental health, and eating disorders. Of course, there are so many that it would be impossible to list them all here. What we want to know is what issue is important to you. We'd really like to know what ribbon(s) would you want to share with us that would make us more aware of what you, a family member or friend is experiencing.
