Scaredy Cat is on a school field trip to the local museum. While outside the entrance, the teacher, Ms. Ruby, explains that when they go inside, they will be meeting with another group of students that are coming from a school that is in a neighboring town. Once they have arrived, they will be touring the museum as a combined group and that she expects her students to be polite and friendly. She goes on to explain that each of her students will be paired up for the day with the other school's students. This trip is an exercise in making friends with pets (and hoomans) from outside their own neighborhoods. The pets all start chattering excitedly, wondering what these other pets are like. Scaredy Cat is a little nervous. He doesn't make friends very easily. It took a while for he and Bob to become friends - but then again - if you always had the facial expression that Bob has - you might be hesitant to befriend him too. But because he is working on doing things that might not always be comfortable at first, he is willing to give this making a new friend thing a try.

Make a Friend Day is coming up on February 11th so this week's theme is all about making a friend!! Friendship is as old as petkind and there are countless times through the year that we can surround ourselves with all our friends and enjoy their company. Make a Friend Day encourages us to move beyond those set groups and meet new pets and hoomans. There are a few different ways that you can look at Make a Friend Day: spend some time in the local coffee shop and check out what others are reading or working on. They might have something in common with you and you can pluck up the courage and start a conversation with them about that commonality. Head to the local craft shop and talk to that shopper that is taking their time choosing items in the same aisle that you gravitate towards. Join a book club! Take a cake decorating class! Join a walking club. There are so many ways that you can do something where you have the opportunity to make a friend (or two)!
