Candy and Donut
It's a few days after Halloween and Scaredy Cat has promised to meet up with Bob at the Community Centre. Bob had asked him to bring along his leftover candies. When Scaredy Cat arrived with JJ he could see that Bob brought along with him box full of delightful donuts. "I thought you said to bring the leftover candies from Halloween but you're bringing donuts. Why?" "Well, if you must know, November 4th is a National Candy Day and November 5th is National Doughnut Appreciation Day. I've decided to combine the 2 special days into one and we can have our own little sweet party". From the looks of it, it seems Bob had started the party before Scaredy Cat got there. It's evident on the traces of sugar and cream near his mouth. "I'm just glad Halloween's over and the best part about it is the candies for sure" said Scaredy Cat. While both are enjoying the donuts and candy, they'll learn more of what these two days are about.

We can always use an excuse to celebrate, especially as the days get shorter and the weather gets colder. From fun food holidays to creative family outings and your much-anticipated Thanksgiving feast, there are at least 30 opportunities to bring some cheer to November that will make you feel warm inside.

November 4th: If you have a sweet tooth, National Candy Day is the holiday for you. This day gives you the perfect excuse to eat some leftover Halloween candy. You also can try a homemade candy recipe for an extra special treat.
• Cotton candy’s original name of “Fairy floss” was the original name of the cotton candy.
• Snickers was a horse the Snickers candy bar was named after Frank Mars’ family horse.
• Chocolate’s comforting properties: The ancient Aztecs believed that chocolate was an aphrodisiac.
• Candy is healthy: Some candies such as gummy bears, lollipops, and sour balls are cholesterol-free, making them a healthy treat.
• The Swiss love their chocolate The Swiss consume more chocolate than any other country in the world.

November 5th is the National Doughnut Appreciation Day
Although the origin of the doughnut is hotly debated, basic doughnuts—or rings of fried dough—first began to appear in literature in the mid-19th century. Since then, they’ve only gotten better. Try your doughnuts frosted, stuffed with marshmallows, or topped with bacon. Or go with the simple glazed doughnuts that have stood the test of time to celebrate the day.
National Donut Day or National Doughnut Day, celebrated in the United States and in some other countries, is on the first Friday of June of each year, succeeding the doughnut event created by The Salvation Army in Chicago in 1938 to honor those of their members who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. The holiday celebrates the doughnut. Many American doughnut stores offer free doughnuts on the occasion.

What can we do to celebrate both days?
• Buy candy/donuts for a friend. Give sweets to be sweet! Nothing says "Have a great day" better than a box of colorful candy or donuts
• Make your own. How about making your own candy or donuts for a change?
• Try something new. We all have our go-to candies or donut flavors, but next time you're at the shop, try the candy or donut you always look at but never actually pick up. It might be a new favorite.

This week we would love to see all PnF members creating their artwork with donuts and candy in mind. There are many ways that you can be creative using images of all these sweets in your art. Host a party that have these two types of sweets as your theme. Collect leftover candies from your friends and family and ask local bakeries and sweet shops for donations and take them all to the local shelter for women and children. Get a piñata, stuff it full of varieties of hard candies and other sweets, and then donate to your local recreation center to be used for a festive Mexican-themed party. Learn the art of making your own candy creations or how to make your own donuts in an assortment of flavors. Make a candy mountain! Make a house from the donuts and decorate it with candies and chocolates. There are so many things you can do with these amazing sweets that will tantalize anyone’s sweet tooth. So go ahead and spark that sweet side of your brain and create away!!
