Belgium: Ghent
| Ghent is a most beautiful city, located in north-west Belgium. It grew up in the 7th century CE at the confluence of the Leie and Scheldt rivers. It was an extremely important city in Europe during the Dark Ages. Today it is a lively university town famous for its castles, churches and other mediaeval buildings, fruity beer and great food, in particular its speciality of fries topped with mayonnaise! |
