An atmospheric picture of a tree lined valley filled with evening fog, lying thick in some places but thinning in others, evokes a feeling of gloom and foreboding. Let's hope the morning sun will dispel the fog and make it a happier place!

Battenburg? Did someone say Battenburg? I'll have me some of that marzipan covered sponge confection! Oh! No, it's the Beatenburg Mountains in the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland. In stark black and white, this makes a striking scene!

Imagine being back in the 19th century, having been invited to dinner in this stately home followed by dancing in this splendid ballroom. With its high, arched windows, ornate chandeliers, and musicians tuning up their instruments ready for the formal dancing to start, men in formal tailcoats and the ladies in graceful, long dresses, it would be the start of a gorgeous and convivial evening!

@ Raven at Halloween
"What's black and white and makes lots of noise?" asked Ande chuckling.
Sparkle sighed heavily. "A piano played by an orangutan?" he hazarded.
Ande looked miffed. "It's a zebra with a drum!"
Sparkle was unimpressed. "How would a zebra play a drum? A piano is a much better answer," he said curtly.

Ande and Sir Barkey Barksalot shook paws, said “How do you do?” and posed for a souvenir photo. “Why am I always on the left?” grumbled Ande. “Let’s change sides.”
“No,” said Sir Barkey Barksalot. “This is my best side.”

Here we have a splendid black-and-white Dutch guinea pig and a self-coloured black, meaning it is black all over. Guinea pigs are herd animals and must have companionship of their own kind. A guinea pig should never be kept on its own.

It's just the type of item you might spot when rooting through vintage shops or junk stores. This slightly battered chalkboard is a handy piece of paraphernalia to salvage and display proudly in your modern kitchen, combining retro style and practical use! "Put the recycling out tonight!" — "Get ½ lb butter" — "Football practice on the 5th" — each reminder can simply be rubbed off and another chalked in its place when necessary!

"Wow!" exclaimed Ande. "It says in the tour guide that in Ancient Rome, the wealthy wore black and white, with red. Blue was considered the colour of the working class; it was associated with barbarians and used to frighten enemies."
"One look at your orange pyjamas would be enough to scare the barbarian from the gate, Ande!" responded Tassie.
Solitude
Climb this hill and at the top, rest in solitude on this thoughtfully provided bench under a bare tree. Gaze out on the scene below you to the far horizon. It's a good place to practise meditation in peace or simply enjoy nature.

"I'm going to buy that chess set in the gift shop, Abby," said Ande. "It'll go nicely with my china polar bear from Manitoba and my remote control model Ferrari from when we went to northern Italy."

The road through the park in this Victorian-looking scene is full of atmosphere and mystery .... at any moment a two-wheeler hansom cab with its single horse might come bowling down this street, bearing the world-famous detective Sherlock Holmes in pursuit of clues on his latest case!
