Frode and Julia have been given a free map to help them enjoy their Winter Tour! Before unfolding it, they read the cover:
Boats & Bergs
On the only island part of the tour, the pets are picked up at the landing stage by a horse-drawn sleigh and are driven through snowy pines to board their awaiting boat which will take them on the main part of the day's adventure. They will see mountains, icebergs, fun little sandy or rocky coves, swathes of trees lining the coast, snowy island villages and will be enthralled towards the end by the tale of the spooky Troll Lake ... those of a nervous disposition will find exploring the night's accommodation will lift their spirits however! It is a beautiful house with a log fire to warm their paws by while they wind down for the night with mugs of hot chocolate.

@ Sunrise Wood
"This is fabulous, Flare," enthused Frode. "I'll have this photo printed and framed and display it next to my ceramic puffin that I got in the little gift shop near Snow Beach and the model lighthouse from Transcia!"
"You'll have a fine collection of mementos, Frode!" said Flare.

Picture the quiet of this wood as you travel through it, the sleigh following previous tracks, the only sounds in the stillness being the muffled clop of the horses' hooves, the jingle of the harness and the swish of the runners through the snow.

@ Ornate Ice Shards
“Wouldn't it be lovely to live in a lighthouse? So romantic!" mused Frode, lying back on a boat deckchair in the indoor lounge.
"Well, I don't know," said Patches. "It's not all about drinking coffee and gazing at the sea. You have run up and down stairs, operate the light and the foghorn, and there may be no running water or electricity apart from a generator."
Patches considered this. "Mine would be a luxurious, converted, non-operational lighthouse, then."
Ornate Ice Shards
The sheer perfection of these shards of ice under magnification show the beauty of Mother Nature's design! Each shard stands like an ornate little spear or pinnacle, yet is made of nothing but frozen water!

@ Snow Scene Sunrise
“I’ve written a postcard to Mrs Eucalyptus about this amazing Huskies, Hijinks and Hygge experience!” said Frode. “She’ll wish she were here! Where’s the nearest postbox?”
Moe shielded his eyes and rotated 360°, elaborately scanning the horizon. “I don’t know how it comes about, but they appear not to have thought to provide a postbox here, Frode. How remiss of them!” Seeing Frode’s ears beginning to droop, Moe added, “Don’t worry, you can post your card after this leg of the Experience!”
Snow Scene Sunrise
The start of a new winter day, with the sun rising and reflecting off the snow crystals which clad the ground, making them glitter in the early morning. Later on, perhaps the snow on the benches will have melted and be occupied by pets taking a rest from their winter snow activities.

@ Lonesome Road
“You know, I'd like to spend a whole week here, Frode!” said Sugar Candy.
"It's very nice indeed—but you never know, the next leg of the tour might be even better!" said Frode.

This road stretches for mile after endless mile but with that breath-taking mountain view to admire, the time will fly past!

“You know, this is the most wonderful place, Frode!” said FLEECE.
"It's very nice indeed—but you never know, the next leg of the tour might be even better!" said Frode.

This sturdy bateau will take the icy waters in her stride and all a pet has to do is find the best vantage point for admiring the scenes all around! Oh, and keep out of the captain's way, of course!

Frode was very happy to meet Brown Bobby here! They shook paws and both swapped tales of their experiences of their travels so far!

Looming up ahead out of the water are the stern, forbidding, desolate peaks shrouded in mist that clearly show the harsh landscape in wintertime.

"I'll get my camera ready," said Frode.

“What have you got in your tote bag, Flutterbye?” asked Tweety Pi. “It looks very full!”
“I’ve come prepared for anything snowy, Tweety Pi,” responded Flutterbye. “There’s snowshoes, snow boots, Wellington boots, a pair of grippy things—you name it, I’ve got it!”

As the sun sets and casts its lingering rays on the sea, there can be no better place for entering a meditative state than beside Marram View, whatever the season.

The autumnal hues of trees on these crags turn slowly to winter foliage and the snowy peaks above them brood down over them in the absolute stillness of water.

@ Idylllic Waterway Retreat
“So what do you reckon, Frode, one of these red houses or one of these brown houses?” asked Latte.
"Oh, you can't beat a solid little grey stone house, Latte!"

What a blissfully idyllic place this would be to live! Imagine steering your boat from place to place and berthing at a landing stage rather than a driveway! With its backdrop of white-topped mountains, a foreground of peaceful waterway, and distinctive houses plus a church with a high steeple, this is certainly a lovely place.

Frode was very happy to meet Pinotte here! They shook paws and both swapped tales of their experiences of their travels so far!

'Ware rocks, ahoy! This cove, fringed with prominent boulders, is perfect for dipping your paws, wings or flippers into when the tide is out. When the tide is full, Rocky Cove offers up brilliant snorkelling opportunities, if the sea is calm enough.

“Ooh, it's just starting to get a bit cold, Frode!” said Molly. “Can you hold my map while I dig out my gloves?"
Frode good-naturedly took charge of Molly's possessions while she emptied her rucksack of a pack of sandwiches, a Thermos flask, a pair of galoshes, a bag of toffees, a paperback novel, a bottle of mineral water, an address book, some postage stamps, an assortment of different coloured biros, a bottle opener, a couple of old train tickets, a handful of golden and silver moles, a door key, some shopping receipts, a screwdriver, a bottle of multivitamins, a lottery ticket and a selection of rather battered sachets of salt, sugar and tomato ketchup before locating the gloves right at the bottom. These she donned and then Frode helped her put everything back in her rucksack.

Brrrr! A lot of pets would baulk at taking a dip in this lake, with patches of ice floating on top! But wrap up warm, and it's the perfect spot for tarrying a while, as the ripples from the birds' feeding activities spread outwards and the light starting to fade a little from the sky.

There's plenty of space on deck in the open air for those pets willing to brave the chill wind! Otherwise there are plenty of seats in the covered lounge area below. But make sure you emerge in time to wave to the welcoming party on terra firma!

Unitee was distracted by the sounds of loud rustling as Frode unfolded a very large tourist map, in the course of which he succeeded in knocking Unitee’s hat off. “Put that away, do!” snapped Unitee. “We’re about to pose beside this amazing scene—the picture will be of your map if you don’t fold it up PDQ!”
Clear Lake Serenity
The snow-clad mountains are perfectly mirrored in the still, calm grey waters of the lake. This wintry lake has the clear transparency of quartz and is a place to meditate.

"It's great to have another boat trip, isn't it, Frode?" said Aaron, studying the route map.
“Let's hope Foxy doesn't get seasick like he did at Crocodile Creek!" replied Frode. "Hang on, where are those Kwells?"

We note the Norwegian influence on this spooky body of water—Troll Lake! Who knows what legends have been passed down over the centuries ... watch out if you dip your paws or flippers in there, especially after sunset and the lake is shrouded with mist!

A scene of chocolate box prettiness! Night-time in an Alpine village, under a clear starry night with snow thickly coating the roofs of chalets and pine trees with snowy peaks in the distance. It's time to hunker down by the wood burning stove with hot drinks and raclette.

Frode opened his rucksack to find his hat. Flicka could see Frode had a beret, a balaclava, a cricket cap, a Tam o' Shanter, a woolly bobble hat, a beanie, a deerstalker hat and a Peruvian chullo!
“Did you bring a Stetson too?” Flicka asked Frode.

Whether indoors or outdoors, a log fire is a familiar scene of warmth and conviviality, as pets gather round to warm their paws or flippers, to toast chestnuts or marshmallows and to swap stories of their busy lives.

@ Enticing Mug of Hot Chocolate
Frode is tired out and ready to go home when Specks comes along. "Wow! You find a special prize!" says Specks. Frode turns round and found it was just behind them!

Mmmm! Just the thing to sip before retiring for the night, a mug of milky hot chocolate. To help wind down, it helps to read a chapter of a good book (but nothing too exciting!).
