In this part of the travel game, the pets delve into Bohemian culture in the area of the city that draws painters, writers, musicians, sculptors and others who express themselves through art. Whether the pets spend time discussing philosophy in one of the many quaint bars or observing the creation of a masterpiece in a tiny, paint splattered studio apartment, or viewing huge graffiti pictures, they will wind up their visit with a trip to some underground cellars before ending the day with the opportunity to purchase some flowers or an elaborately decorated ridotto mask!

Schnupfen and Misty paused to watch a pavement artist painting the portrait of one of their fellow-travellers. “Hi, Foxy!” called out Misty excitedly.
Startled, the artist dropped his loaded brush on the ground, sending drops of paint flying in Schnupfen and Misty's direction!

"I'm not sure about Jay & Puddle's, though, Sephira. It sounds like there's the mother of all riots going on in there!" said Misty.

Situated in a lively narrow street packed with bars, restaurants and cafés and thronging with artists of all types rubbing shoulders in the milieu of aesthetic innovation, this bistro is a splendid place to have a bite to eat and to take in the local colour before sallying forth—perhaps to have your portrait painted or your silhouette cut out and pasted on card!

Midnight nearly stumbled over Misty, who was lying stretched out on the pavement. “I was wishing I’d brought my watercolours,” said Misty. “This just cries out to be painted!”

“Yes, it's a complete change of scene!” said Misty.

“Are you limping, Frosty?” asked Misty.
“No, it's just these cobblestones are a little difficult to navigate after a time!" said Frosty.

"Oh yes, I daresay," said Misty airily. “We just don't understand it, I expect.”

Wooden barrels made by skilled artisans and their perfect seasoning with Sherry wines creates a container without equal. In Spanish a barrel is called a “tonel” and the weight of a full barrel is 1 ton. It is the same in English where the origin of the word “ton” is “tun” a wooden wine vessel. A tonelada referred to the space needed for a tonel of liquid in a ship.

"I don't know about you, Misty," said Shadow. "But I'm really looking forward to having a drink at Jay & Puddle's bar when we've completed our tour!"
Misty agreed. ”There's something about looking at a bunch of art fixtures that makes me very thirsty, Shadow!" she said.

These small windows are a delightful mix of ornate metal decoration contrasting with the smooth curves of the earth tone frames, all set off by the duck egg blue of the walls. This soft greenish blue stems from the first discovery of a blue pigment in the 18th century, which was then lightened with white.

Misty and Choose a name shook paws, said “How do you do?” and posed for a souvenir photo. “Why am I always on the left?” grumbled Misty. “Let’s change sides.”

The artists' quarter is known for its vibrant use of colour and this little road is no exception. Cerulean walls baked over the years by the sun to a more muted but no less beautiful shade make this house stand out!

Here the surface qualities of the water play a fundamental role in giving the composition of the architecture a final effect—acting in this case not as a perfect mirror but by giving a diffuse touch to the colour and texture of the reflected houses.

Zoey stood open-mouthed before the attraction in front of herself and Misty. “That's actually pretty good, isn't it, Misty?” she said. Misty agreed.

Well-worked graffiti art is typically bold, creative and colourful. It changes the character of the area where it appears. In many cases this is positive, since graffiti art can turn dull monotone buildings and bare walls into interesting and eye-catching exhibitions of the imagination. High-quality graffiti contained within a particular area can raise that neighbourhood's profile as an arts scene. In time, other artists flock there, and the cultural value of the area is increased. This can in the long-term aid the local economy, as tourists head to the area to look at the graffiti, and locally-run tours pop up to show visitors around.

“I don't know, Slider," mused Misty, chewing a toffee. “When I see flaky paint I scrape it down with a putty knife, then get the Polyfilla out to repair any cracks, prime it, let it dry and then repaint it. Perhaps I should leave it a couple of decades and call it art.”

Stained glass is an art form that has been in use since mediaeval times and we tend to associate it with church windows, a riot of bright colours illustrating a narrative. This example has the feel of industrial architecture about it, with its regular rectangular glass panes and muted colours but is nonetheless beautiful.

lady lovely looked round eagerly. "Misty, I'll roll that barrel over here and we can both stand on it and take a selfie with this arty background behind us."
Misty was dubious. "That barrel top might break under our combined weight and plunge us into a vat of sherry! Why don't we stand on those stairs instead?"
lady lovely could be heard muttering that they could drink their way out, but headed towards the steps.

Sir John Dee scrabbled in his rucksack for his folding camping chair. “What are you doing with that, Sir John Dee?” asked Misty. “There's a lot of the tour left to go!”
"I just want to stay here a little while and chill out to the sound of that heavenly mandolin. You go ahead if you want, I'll catch you up!" said Sir John Dee.

What kind of staircase do you prefer? Wide, sweeping, traditional stairs, ultra-modern floating steps, brightly painted, perspex, see-through risers, steps that provide storage or perhaps steps that light up? Would you go for stairs that have a slide incorporated for quick and easy access to a crash mat at the bottom? These stairs, with their quiet cream and brown colouring, and multistorey stairwell view ever upwards, create a definite vibe.

Venetian Masquerade Mask
Handmade by Italian artisans, the Venetian masquerade or Joker mask has a long history. Venice is a city of romance and high fashion and the masks have always held a sense of mystery. Venetians were famous for hiding their identity and taking risks both in business and in love. The wearing of masks at balls and masquerades spread and they would be worn in Mozart's Salzburg and at fashionable Georgian London ridottos.
