@ Dashing Through the Snow
S.D. Bee and Snuggles have been given a free map to help them enjoy their Winter Tour! Before unfolding it, they read the cover:
Ski & Skate
Today's trip is on a modern train with spacious seats and large windows to enjoy the passing winter scenery. The train's first stop by a frozen lake allows the pets the opportunity to stretch their legs with a little skating! Let's hope there are no frozen paws from this adventure! The trip then proceeds to skiing grounds with steep snowy slopes, cable cars, chair lifts and an Olympic ski jump! The pets can also turn their paws to snowboarding if they wish. The pets will meet a cute little critter also trying to ski. Back on board the train at the end of an action-packed day, the pets will have the thrill of seeing the Northern Lights as they travel home in the setting sun to that night's lodging. There they will enjoy a warming milky coffee and a bowl of hot soup by the wood-burning stove in the dining room, while admiring the snowy scene outside.
Dashing Through the Snow
While an aeroplane might get you to your final destination more quickly and efficiently, nothing can surpass the romance and sightseeing opportunities of a journey by train. Just try to make sure you get a window seat to capture the breath-taking views of snowy peaks!

Cold, bracing snowy weather is grand in theory. However, if your paws start to go numb and the chill creeps its way through your fur, it can start to lose its attraction. The answer is a train journey, where you can look out across sweeping white vistas or forests of trees lightly trimmed with snow, without having to get your scarf on!

“It's embarrassing to be staggering round the skating rink trying to get used to the boots and a young lemur sails past doing a pirouette, chendler," grumbled S.D. Bee.

Nowadays rinks of artificial ice are commonplace in all countries. In former times skating could only be enjoyed when the weather was cold enough to freeze a lake or river to thick ice, allowing skaters to enjoy a game of curling or ice hockey or just enjoy pirouetting on the chilly, frozen surface!

“It would be great fun to camp in the snow overnight, wouldn't it, Hippocrite?” said S.D. Bee."In the morning you'd fill your kettle with snow and boil it suspended from a tripod of sticks, like they do in books."
Hippocrite shivered. “Brrrrrrrr! I think it would be a little too cold, S.D. Bee! I like my creature comforts!"

One benefit of travelling by train as opposed to by car is the fun of being able to relax in one's seat and watch the passing towns and countryside.

Being in the mountains has a huge benefit on both our physical and mental health. Skiers will talk about the adrenalin rush of the slopes but also the pleasure gained from being in nature and having social interaction. Beyond the physical benefits, exposure to the natural surroundings of the mountains during exercise appears to provide an additional boost to our psychological well-being and aids in recovering from stress.

After a tiring but exhilarating day on the slopes, it's time to doff our skis and enjoy the après ski evening, where we will cosily plot our next ski adventure! What plans we make! It's not necessary to have a lively party; a quiet hot milky coffee with two or three friends after a day's fun on the slopes gives us the chance to bond and get ready for the morrow's pleasures.

Skiing enthusiasts love it all, from the crisp, fresh bite of the air on arrival at the resort, the contrasting warmth of chalets; the icicles hanging from roofs; twinkling fairylights in the streets and the bursts of convivial laughter and applause from restaurants and bars where pets enjoy themselves after a day on the slopes!

"This is fabulous, Moriarty," enthused S.D. Bee. "I'll have this photo printed and framed and display it next to my plush reindeer that I got in the little gift shop near Snow Beach and the mother of pearl model of the Taj Mahal from Icon!"
"You'll have a fine collection of mementos, S.D. Bee!" said Moriarty.
Skiing Adventure Starts
You and your fellow pets may prefer to mostly ski together, but perhaps sometimes the more advanced skiers will tackle a challenging route down the mountain and you then meet at the bottom of the slope. A shared love and appreciation for snow makes for the perfect, spectacular and memorable holiday on the slopes.

DRAGO was distracted by the sounds of loud rustling as S.D. Bee unfolded a very large tourist map, in the course of which he succeeded in knocking DRAGO’s hat off. “Put that away, do!” said DRAGO, exasperated. “We’re about to pose beside this amazing scene—the picture will be of your map if you don’t fold it up PDQ!”

If you keep a careful lookout this winter you might spot this endearing gnome in his jaunty red and white cap, navigating on small wooden skis with a ski pole clutched in each hand!

“If there's time at the end of the day when we get back to our accommodation, I might do some initial sketches for a watercolour painting," Sir Barkey Barksalot said, offering S.D. Bee a toffee from the bag and then unwrapping one for himself.
“That sounds like a good plan, Sir Barkey Barksalot!" said S.D. Bee. "Doing something relaxing is very hygge!"

If you incline towards a clean, minimalist look, then white walls are the perfect base. The hallmark of this peaceful and uncluttered look is lots of white—particularly on the walls—with touches of muted brown, blue and cream on the elaborate rug also have a calming influence, while the view to the garden outside and the piano add a serene touch.

“I always worry the ice will give way beneath me on these frozen lake rinks, Charlie!" said S.D. Bee.
