The most recognisable of the dairy breeds, Holsteins are typically black and white with clearly defined markings. They are noted for high milk production and their large size which makes them popular among farmers everywhere. The mature weight of a Holstein is around 1,500 pounds, and they can produce up to 2,600 gallons of milk each year.

The pets visited Burlington for a frozen treat! Karak chose Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough while others opted for a new flavour: non-dairy ice cream with oat cinnamon cookies, toasted marshmallows, caramel swirl and sea salt chocolatey chunks. On learning the name of this masterpiece—Oat of this Swirled—Karak groaned quietly.

Karak woke at sunrise and leant out of the window, loving the crisp air, the beauty of the sun emerging over the distant peaks and the stirrings of the local bird population starting their dawn chorus. Karak was in happy anticipation of the day ahead in this amazing state!

Karak went out and brushed the old covered bridge clear of snow and cleaned the windows. The tour guide had explained that putting roofs on bridges, far from being a quaint, pointless old custom, actually protected the bridge from bad weather, made the whole structure stronger and had a calming influence on livestock having to cross the bridge over rushing water.

Karak went on a trip to downtown Burlington, Vermont's largest city, with his friends from the group. After enjoying the arts and culture, plus the New England charm of the city, they all had a convivial meal together. Being with one's friends, reflected Karak, talking about things large and small, was a real boost to one's happiness!

As night fell and the sky grew darker, the city awoke in different ways. Karak and his friends enjoyed some live music and had great fun before deciding to call it a night.

Karak was invited to join the local fire crew on a fire training day, where a safely controlled conflagration was used to train all present in how best to tackle such a blaze! Karak had to take his courage in both paws, but in the end it was an exciting rather than scary experience!

Scarecrows were definitely a "thing" in Vermont! Karak enjoyed seeing scarecrows in a variety of costumes such as one guarding a trolley of farmer's produce, and he wished they would still be here to see the results of the local competitions for the best dressed scarecrow!

There was so much to do here! Karak and the other pets had a riding lesson, had great fun in the famous Corn Maze, had an exciting time on a gondola skyride and a trek with zipwire adventures, they visited the art gallery and the museum, went mountain biking, went on the Ben & Jerry's factory tour, and had a helicopter ride! In the evening they attended a performance by the local drama group and then went on a lantern-lit tour of the town!

Karak had learnt that Vermont grows 150 varieties of apple! This is doubtless why the apple is the state fruit of Vermont. Karak wished he could have been here in the autumn, the main apple-picking season!
