Germ-An and Snowilicious are excited to find out what is in store for them in the Autumn Experience! As they enter, they each receive a free map! It reads:
Autumn in Purple
A country ramble awaits the pets and after exploring woodland paths, a small settlement will be found. At the spice store they will find cinnamon, chillies, star anise and chestnuts, plus purple flowers for perfumery. They will skirt a small lake before seeing a host of pink and purple-hued flowers and plants. Don't forget to grab an apple or two to munch as you head out onto the next stage of our tour!

As we begin our journey we are welcomed by a wonderful scarlet pathway. With the vivid canopy above, the crunchy leaves under our feet, and the sun-kissed trees on the side of the trail, we anticipate what beauty lies ahead.

Episode 2/25

@ Illusion of Nightfall
Kikianna nearly stumbled over Germ-An, who was lying full length on the grass. “I was wishing I’d brought my watercolours,” said Germ-An. “This just cries out to be painted!”

Illusion of Nightfall
Proceeding along the trail something unexpected happens right away. The canopy becomes so dense it gives the illusion of impending nightfall. The light beckons you ahead.

Episode 3/25

@ Undulating Road
Germ-An and Hubris shook paws, said “How do you do?” and posed for a souvenir photo. “Why am I always on the left?” grumbled Germ-An. “Let’s change sides.”
“No,” said Hubris. “This is my best side.”
Undulating Road
The light leads us to the remnants of a paved gently undulating road shrouded with trees just beginning to lose their leaves. We wonder what pets have journeyed through here in times gone by.

Episode 4/25

@ Autumn Rice Field
“Time to move on and shake the next paw!” observed Germ-An. Jewel agreed, but said she was going to stay here awhile and collect pine cones.

This journey is definitely full of surprises! One never knows what to expect as they round the bend of life and this rice field is the perfect example. Who knew rice could grow here in the cool autumn temperatures?

@ Sunlight Road
Germ-An gazed at the scene around them in awe, while Ali Haider grumbled a little about Germ-An's so-called shortcut, if his blisters were anything to go by!

The undulating road has smoothed out and we are bathed in the warm rays of sunshine as they illuminate the path ahead and the glory of the autumn leaves.

@ Wild Blueberries
Rosco greeted Germ-An cheerily, recommending it expended some silver moles on the fresh harvest food before them.

Just as your tummy begins to rumble you spot these deeply colored wild blueberries in the brush beside the trail. The color is much deeper than the berries you have seen at the market and your mouth begins to water. Perfect timing and oh-so-refreshing!

@ Fresh Chestnuts
“This reminds me of Meadowlands,” observed Germ-An, musing as it and Bill took a moment to admire the produce beside them. “Such a lovely, peaceful scene.”

As soon as my eyes catch the sight of these baskets of freshly harvested chestnuts, washed and ready to purchase, a familiar song gets stuck in my head. Is it too early to sing Christmas carols?

@ Vision in Violet
"How on earth do you identify what this is from the thousands of things it could be?" asked Cuckoo.
"Well," said Germ-An, "you go through a checklist. Like what sort of leaves does it have, how are they arranged on the stem, do they have stalks, what's its habitat; that kind of thing. I'll lend you a book when we get home."
Vision in Violet
Pets who love the color purple will be captivated by the intense color of this gorgeous violet flower. The vendor claims it will last for weeks as a cut flower so no reason to leave without buying a bouquet.

@ Cinnamon Sticks and Star Anise
Germ-An was excited by seeing all the different harvest produce. “I’m going to apply for an allotment and start growing my own food!” he announced to Dong Dong, when they met and shook paws.

Nothing smells like autumn like the aroma of hot spiced apple cider. Combine cinnamon sticks, star anise, oranges studded with whole cloves, brown sugar, allspice, nutmeg, and apple cider into a pot and steep them all together for a favorite fall drink.

Sparkles bent down to sniff the flower in front of her but recoiled hastily. “What’s up, Sparkles?” asked Germ-An.
“There’s a huge bumblebee on it!” said Sparkles.

“Hey, Mischief!” called out Germ-An. “Come and have some of this—it’s delicious!”
Mischief was glad to relax and enjoy the food Germ-An shared with him.

@ Log Cabin in the Woods
“Let’s pose with one of us at each side and I’ll set the self-timer to take a shot,” said Germ-An to Chippy. “It’ll be a wonderful souvenir of our time here!”

Ahhh, here it is, our lodging for tonight. We came upon this log cabin just in time as I need to stop and rest awhile. This cozy cabin in the woods looks so warm and inviting. We should get a good night's sleep in this peaceful spot! I do hope they have a porch swing to relax on!

@ Sunset Field
Baby shook paws with Germ-An and was just enjoying the view when she was distracted by loud rustling as Germ-An unfolded a very lengthy Autumn Experience itinerary, in the course of which it succeeded in knocking Baby’s hat off. “Put that away, do!” snapped Baby. “I’m about to take a photo of this amazing scene—the picture will be of your map if you don’t fold it up pronto!”

Sitting on the porch of the cabin watching the sun as it sets over the fields in the valley, you are thankful for the beauty all around in PnF land.

"I wish I knew more about horticulture, Sour Puss" said Germ-An. "Sometimes I can't tell if something's a plant or a weed!"
"Oh, there's a sure-fire way of telling the difference, Germ-An! Pull on it—if it comes out of the ground easily, it's a really valuable plant.”

No rose is a mysterious as the purple rose and its fragrance is just as fascinating. This single rose is simply stunning when placed in a bouquet with other lavender-hued flowers.

“You know, Cicero said 'If you have a garden and a library you have everything you need',” mused Misty Anne.
"I don't think I've met Cicero," said Germ-An. "Is he on this tour?"

What an extremely rare sight! I bet you didn't know there was a variety of lilacs that blooms in the fall. Well, there is! It's called Josee Reblooming Lilac. Lilacs, not just for spring anymore!

“I’m going to ask if I can take a cutting of this,” Cadbury said to Germ-An. “This would look just fine in a half barrel in my front garden!”

Germ-An opened its rucksack to change its hat. Suri could see Germ-An had a baseball cap, a sombrero, a beret, a straw boater, a cricket cap, a sou'wester, a large, floppy sunhat and a pith helmet!
“Did you bring a mortarboard too?” Suri asked Germ-An.

As daylight fades into darkness the earth is bathed in soft pink and purple diffused hues. An old white picket fence stands guard as it has for years.

“These make a fine display, don’t they, Germ-An?” said Shenanigan, when she and Germ-An had shaken paws.

Rufus bent down to sniff the flower in front of him but recoiled hastily. “What’s up, Rufus?” asked Germ-An.
“There’s a huge bumblebee on it!” said Rufus.

Pale pink and dark purple leaves make this a quite dramatic poinsettia plant! And no, it's not too early to think about poinsettias because if we want them to look like this they need to be placed into a dark room several months before Christmas so that the leaves change colors.

Germ-An tumbled out of the Autumn Experience tourist bus, almost flattening Sir John Dee in the process, then it wondered where the muffled groans were coming from!

Soft and wispy, like a daydream, these delicate-looking flowers are anything but that. They are actually a sturdy wildflower, blooming all summer long through the end of autumn.

Germ-An is enjoying the Autumn Experience when Screech comes along. "Look! A special prize!" says Screech. Germ-An looks down and sees something valuable. Screech generously lets Germ-An keep it!
