Angel and Antipodes are excited to find out what is in store for them in the Autumn Experience! As they enter, they each receive a free map! It reads:
Autumn in Red
Fall foliage in striking hues of red and orange will be seen all around on this tour along the riverbank. Your pet can collect pine cones, sample wild berries and currants, view beautiful plants in purple and red, and perhaps spot some exotic birdlife! Everypet will enjoy lingering on the bridge to view the peaceful scene as the sun goes down turning the river pink as it does so ...
PnF Meeting House
Before we begin the journey we need to check-in here to pick up a trail map and some travel snacks. Be sure to sign the register with how many are in your travel party and how long you plan to be on the trail. Don't forget to take a potty break before you head out!

Episode 2/25

@ Sleepy River Sunrise
Angel and Marcus were so rapt gazing at the scenery they almost forgot to shake paws before moving on to the next stage!

The sun is just beginning to illuminate the sky, casting a warm glow on the sleepy river and the sleepy pets in the village. We begin our journey early in the cool of the day as the PnF weatherpet has predicted an unusually warm autumn day ahead.

@ Sunrise Silhouette
While Angel stood drinking in the amazing view, Mocha searched in her backpack for her camera, eager to capture the scene!

As the sun continues to rise and the chill of the morning gives way, some of the hikers begin to shed their warm jackets and stuff them in their packs. A lone plant is dramatically silhouetted in the sun's golden light.

@ Autumn Stillness
“I’ve written a postcard to Mrs Eucalyptus about this amazing Autumn Experience!” said Angel. “She’ll wish she were here! Where’s the nearest postbox?”
Midnite shielded her eyes and rotated 360°, elaborately scanning the horizon. “I don’t know how it comes about, but they appear not to have thought to provide a postbox here, Angel. How remiss of them!” Seeing Angel’s ears beginning to droop, Midnite added, “Don’t worry, you can post your card after this leg of the Experience!”

As we behold the beauty of the golden leaves in the nearby trees, some clouds have rolled in, obscuring the sun for a bit. Some small fish in the river below are dining on insects that skim along the surface, creating little ripples on the calm water.

@ Orange Splendor
Olivia Anna shook paws with Angel and was just enjoying the view when she was distracted by loud rustling as Angel unfolded a very lengthy Autumn Experience itinerary, in the course of which she succeeded in knocking Olivia Anna’s hat off. “Put that away, do!” snapped Olivia Anna. “I’m about to take a photo of this amazing scene—the picture will be of your map if you don’t fold it up pronto!”
Orange Splendor
The glorious colors of autumn overflow in profusion along the trail prompting a chorus of 'oohs' and 'ahs' among the travelers. We pause and stare in rapturous awe for a moment before proceeding.

Episode 6/25

@ Ginger Root
Icy and Angel counted out their silver moles and bought some of the harvest food. “That one wins first prize for me!” declared Icy.
Ginger Root
Ginger root is a well-known natural remedy for some common ailments. If you are prone to stomach upset and indigestion, nibbling on a small piece of raw ginger or drinking ginger tea can help alleviate your symptoms. But it is most useful on the journey as it helps your body to recover from muscle soreness after over-exertion. It will definitely come in handy today!

An important reminder when one is out on an adventure: remember to look up! There is so much beauty around us, we don't want to miss any of it, especially when it is something as wonderful as the sun's rays filtering through the orange leaves of this Japanese Maple tree.

Angel and Artic pooled their silver moles, hoping to buy a small souvenir or two to remind them of this beautiful place!

See, glancing upward occasionally does have its benefits! As we continue along the trail we see a different variety of Japanese Maple, no less beautiful than the orange one. A treat to our eyes, this one is adorned in a fabulous crimson red.

@ Delightful Dahlia
“What’s this flower called?” Angel said to Bluey~*. “Er—I only know the Latin name for it,” said Bluey~* and hastily changed the subject.

The PnF gardener has done a fabulous job landscaping along the trail. Pots of flowers have been placed throughout to display an array of vivid autumn colors. This deep pink hued dahlia is delightful!

@ Marvelous Magenta Flower
“I’m going to have to spend a lot of time when we get back looking up what all these flowers are!” said Angel to Wily.

@ Nectar Delight
"This is a glorious specimen, Hearts", observed Angel. "What a shame that in a month or so all this colour will be gone!"
"You know the best way to get colour in your garden all year, Angel?" said Hearts. "Buy a garden gnome!"

Be still and maybe it won't see you. Look over there on that red flower. It's a Micronesian Myzomela, and I almost didn't see it as it is somewhat camouflaged by the wispy red flowers it is sipping nectar from.

“You know, Cicero said 'If you have a garden and a library you have everything you need',” mused Oscar.
"I don't think I've met Cicero," said Angel. "Is he on this tour?"

These red berries sure look delicious. You better check your trail guide though to make sure that these berries are not poisonous.

@ Basket of Pine Cones
“Hey, Redington!” called out Angel. “Come and have some of this—it’s delicious!”
Redington was glad to rest and enjoy the food Angel shared with him.

According to the note attached to the basket, each of us is supposed to take a pine cone and plant the seeds in the designated area ahead. A park ranger will give us instructions when we get there. A pine forest covered in fresh snowfall is one of the most beautiful sights to see in winter. I'm happy to help add to that beauty!

@ Magnificent Maple
Angel thought the scenery at this new stop was lovely and asked Queenie if it would be possible to set up camp for the night!

@ Autumn Rose Bouquet
Two-tone and Angel shook paws and then they both admired the magnificent floral display beside them.

The unmistakable fragrance of roses captures my attention as I leave the wooded area. I look down to see a beautiful arrangement of autumn-hued roses in a white ceramic pot.

@ Perfect Spot for a Campsite
Angel and Mr. Panda shook paws, then looked around in awe, wishing they hadn’t already eaten their lunch! This was the most perfect place for a picnic!

Angel and Wuzzle shook paws before sitting down to enjoy an autumnal harvest snack. “There’s nothing like farm-fresh food, is there, Angel?” said Wuzzle.

“My uncle grows these in his back garden,” observed Angel.
“Wow! He must surely have green fingers!” replied Emily.

@ Shiny Redcurrant Berries
Midnight Majesty and Angel, after shaking paws, admired the crop of harvest produce in front of them. “I didn’t know it looked like that just after harvest,” said Angel. “I’ve only seen it in the shops!”

Wild redcurrants can be found all over the countryside. They look temptingly sweet to eat, but these shiny red berries are usually made into redcurrant jelly because of their tartness.

“I’m going to ask if I can take a cutting of this,” Archie said to Angel. “This would look just fine in a half barrel in my front garden!”

Growing on the side of the bridge is a mass of deep red and purple leafy vines. Deep blue berries hang in bunches just waiting to be eaten.

“I’m going to have to spend a lot of time when we get back looking up what all these flowers are!” said Angel to Batty.

“Isn’t this amazing, Starla?” declared Angel. “I’m seeing so many flowers and shrubs that I’ve never seen before!”

@ Teasels and Carnations
"I wish I knew more about horticulture, Saphira" said Angel. "Sometimes I can't tell if something's a plant or a weed!"
"Oh, there's a sure-fire way of telling the difference, Angel! Pull on it—if it comes out of the ground easily, it's a really valuable plant.”
Teasels and Carnations
Teasel weeds are a very common roadside plant. They look beautiful for being a weed, don't they? They are a favorite among crafters as they can be dried and painted any color. These lovely bi-color pink carnations pair perfectly with the purple painted teasels.

A sea of red leaves act as the perfect backdrop to showcase yet another patch of little blue berries. I'm not hungry so I'll leave these for another traveler.
