New Hampshire State Flag
The flag of the state of New Hampshire consists of the state seal centred on a blue background. The Great Seal depicts the frigate USS Raleigh and is surrounded by a laurel wreath with nine stars. The Raleigh is one of the first 13 warships sponsored by the Continental Congress for a new American navy, built in 1776, at Portsmouth. The seal is surrounded by a laurel wreath. The wreath is an ancient symbol of fame, honour, and victory. The nine stars within the wreath show that New Hampshire was the ninth state to join the Union. The water stands for the harbour of Portsmouth, and in the yellow-coloured spit of land is granite, a strong igneous rock, representing both New Hampshire's rugged landscape and the sturdy character of her people.

The first painted eggs came from Mesopotamia, and because eggs were forbidden food during Lent, people painted eggs while Lent was being observed—after Lent, they would eat the eggs on Easter Day.

Beautifully decorated eggs “pysanka” are associated with Ukraine, and the oldest painted egg that was unearthed in northern Ukraine is dated to the end of the 17th century.

“I’ve come prepared for anything, Bo,” responded Starla. “There’s canvas deck shoes, tennis shoes, flip-flops, sandshoes, walking boots, sandals, loafers—you name it, I’ve got it!”
White Mountains, New Hampshire
Thick cloud cover is soon to change to stormy weather and bring a chilly autumn rain over the White Mountains, soaking the dry earth one last time. Who knows, the next time precipitation comes it might be the white stuff blanketing the earth for a winter's nap.

New Hampshire is home to one of the windiest places on earth. Sitting at the top of a 6,289-foot peak is the Mount Washington Observatory. In 1934, a wind speed of 231 miles per hour at the observatory once held the record for highest wind speed ever recorded. Mount Washington is still considered to be one of the windiest places on earth.

A rock formation in Franconia Notch State Park is featured on the state's commemorative quarter. The face of the Old Man of the Mountain has since collapsed but the beauty of the White Mountain area is still unmatched.

“Ooh, it's just starting to get a bit cold, Bo!” said Graham. “Can you hold my map while I dig out my gloves?"
Bo good-naturedly took charge of Graham's possessions while he emptied his rucksack of a pack of sandwiches, a Thermos flask, a pair of galoshes, a bag of toffees, a paperback novel, a bottle of mineral water, an address book, some postage stamps, an assortment of different coloured biros, a bottle opener, a couple of old train tickets, a handful of golden and silver moles, a door key, some shopping receipts, a screwdriver, a bottle of multivitamins, a lottery ticket and a selection of rather battered sachets of salt, sugar and tomato ketchup before locating the gloves right at the bottom. These he donned and then Bo helped him put everything back in his rucksack.
St. Paul's School, Concord, New Hampshire
St. Paul’s School was founded in 1856 when George Shattuck established a school for boys in Concord, New Hampshire. Originally established on 50 acres of land, the grounds now comprise 2,000 idyllic acres, which include 25 miles of wooded trails, four ponds, and the upper third of the Turkey River. Svaha was distracted by the sounds of loud rustling as Bo unfolded a very large tourist map, in the course of which he succeeded in knocking Svaha’s hat off. “Put that away, do!” said Svaha, exasperated. “We’re about to pose beside this amazing scene—the picture will be of your map if you don’t fold it up PDQ!”
Chocorua Lake, Tamworth, New Hampshire
Chocorua Lake is a picturesque lake covering 222 acres in northeast New Hampshire. The lake is most noted for its calm, serene setting. There is little to no development surrounding it, and its stunning views of the bald summit of Mount Chocorua are unblemished by radio antennas.

New Hampshire is the first place in America to grow potatoes. In 1719, early settlers to the state brought with them a sack of seed potatoes. The spud seeds were then planted, and they grew into the first crop of potatoes in the United States! Because of the historical importance and all of the love for the tasty tater, in 2013, the potato became New Hampshire’s official state vegetable.

Newcastle is the smallest and easternmost town in New Hampshire and the only one located entirely on islands! You will definitely find that a little boat like this one will come in very handy. Climb in and leisurely paddle around and take in all the misty early morning loveliness. It is home to Fort Constitution Historic Site, Fort Stark Historic Site, and the New Castle Common, a 31-acre (13 ha) recreation area on the Atlantic Ocean. New Castle is also home to a United States Coast Guard station, as well as the historic Wentworth by the Sea hotel.

John Paul Jones House, Portsmouth, NH
One of Portsmouth, New Hampshire's many historic buildings is the John Paul Jones House. It is the only known structure connected to the Revolutionary War hero John Paul Jones. Built in 1758 by famed African-American master housewright, Hopestill Cheswell, it was a boarding house owned by a widow, Sarah Purcell. John Paul Jones boarded there from 1781 to 1782.
