@ Sled Dog in Training
Tuffe and Pickles have been given a free map to help them enjoy their Winter Tour! Before unfolding it, they read the cover:
Winter Wildlife
A cute little fellow greets the pets this morning to herald the arrival of the morning's transport. The pets will pass wintry landscapes and greet all kinds of wildlife. They have the opportunity to explore bridges, a forest, a river and a snowbound wooden cabin before heading home in the sunset to that night's lodging. While passing the lumber store, they meet two more appealing little creatures keeping out of the cold. The pets then go inside for welcome bowls of soup and wind up their day by creating hot drinks with special chosen garnishes.
Sled Dog in Training
This pup may be young but he will learn much just by running alongside the team and hearing the musher call out the directions. Some day he may even be the lead dog.

Episode 2/27

@ Straight Ahead, Team!
“I could stay here forever, Tuffe,” said Winter. “This is an amazing place!”
“Well, you never know what lies ahead, Winter. I wouldn't be surprised if the next stop is even better!” said Tuffe.
Straight Ahead, Team!
Eagerly jumping in their harnesses, the sled dog team lunges forward at the sound of the driver's command to "Hike!" The sled glides along the snowy path effortlessly thanks to the well-trained team. What seems like work to us is actually a great source of joy for a sled dog. Every time a musher decides to go out, every dog in the kennel is excitedly barking and jumping, hoping they get chosen to be on the team.

@ Snowy Bench
“It would be great fun to camp in the snow overnight, wouldn't it, xiaolu?” said Tuffe."In the morning you'd fill your kettle with snow and boil it suspended from a tripod of sticks, like they do in books."
xiaolu shivered. “You must be fond of adventure books, Tuffe! I'd rather have four solid walls round me at night, actually!"
Snowy Bench
Hikers welcome a sight such as this during a long, snowy trek. Chances to sit for a bit to rest are far and few between on the trails. Benches in places like this are usually erected in memory of a loved one who enjoyed the outdoors or as an eagle scout project.

@ Fox on the Prowl
“I'm already looking forward to tonight's hot drink by the fire, Tuffe,” said MooBerry.
"Hey, a snowshoe expedition will warm you up!" replied Tuffe.

Fox on the Prowl
Foxes have a keen sense of hearing and can hear its prey scurrying underground even under the cover of snow. It is poised to pounce quickly and seize the opportunity for a tasty hard-to-find winter snack.

@ Through the Frozen Wetlands
"Wasn’t it worth coming all this way, Tuffe," said Bluey~*, "for this experience alone?"
Tuffe, admiring the scene they were now in, heartily agreed!
Through the Frozen Wetlands
The carefully constructed boardwalk allows hikers to safely traverse the wetlands while protecting its inhabitants. While they are hibernating at the moment, at the first sign of spring, the environs come alive with the chorus of spring peepers and other critters who call this land home.

@ Squirrel in the Snow
Tuffe and Skye shook paws, then looked around in awe, wishing they hadn’t already eaten their lunch! This was the most perfect place to spread the waterproof blanket for a picnic!

I know I hid that corn cob somewhere around here but a recent snowfall has covered it up. Now I will have to check every lumpy spot in the snow to find it. Boy, will I be glad when I do! I'm hungry!

@ Snowy Cabin in the Forest
“Ooh, it's just starting to get a bit cold, Tuffe!” said Flopsy. “Can you hold my gloves and map while I dig out my scarf?"
Tuffe good-naturedly took charge of Flopsy's possessions while she emptied her rucksack of a pack of sandwiches, a Thermos flask, a pair of galoshes, a bag of toffees, a paperback novel, a bottle of mineral water, an address book, some postage stamps, an assortment of different coloured biros, a bottle opener, a couple of old train tickets, a handful of golden and silver moles, a door key, some shopping receipts, a screwdriver, a bottle of multivitamins, a lottery ticket and a selection of rather battered sachets of salt, sugar and tomato ketchup before locating the scarf right at the bottom. This she donned and then Tuffe helped her put everything back in her rucksack.

Snowy Cabin in the Forest
The freshly plowed path beckons you to the cozy cabin tucked into the dense evergreen forest. Oh, I can already feel the warmth of the wood-burning stove and can't wait to kick off my boots and relax under a warm quilt with a cup of hot cocoa.

“Pass me the binoculars, Tuffe!” said Cookie. "I think that's a Canada goose just taking off over there!"

Welcome to my neck of the woods! I know you'll love it here as much as I do. You don't happen to have a carrot in your backpack, do you? I could use a little snack as I've been sniffing around trying to find something to munch on under the snow.

@ Snow-Covered Fence
Midnite and Tuffe were musing on the concept of hygge.
“Is the reason there's no word for this in English because England is a cold, damp little island with an awful train service?"
Tuffe considered this. "Well, they could still go indoors out of the rain and curl up in an armchair with a good book and stuff."

Snow-Covered Fence
The snow-covered fence marks the border of this sparse remote land. With one lone tree off in the distance and no hoof or paw prints in the freshly fallen snow, there doesn't appear to be much activity here. Perfect, just the way I like it!

@ European Crested Tit
“I was pretending to be an Arctic explorer in the husky sled on the way here, Tuffe,” revealed Sir Fluffle Bottom.
"Is that why you kept yelling: 'Mush! Mush!' at them?" asked Tuffe. "Hey, what would happen if you shouted the wrong command and they suddenly did a U-turn?"
"I reckon we'd all be flung out headfirst into the nearest snowdrift," grinned Sir Fluffle Bottom.

European Crested Tit
A common songbird found throughout the deciduous and coniferous forests in Central and Northern Europe, the crested tit does not migrate. It is very vocal with its nearly constant song of zee, zee, zee.

@ Misty Evergreen Forest
“If there's time at the end when we get back to our accommodation, I might do some initial sketches for a watercolour painting," Smokey said, offering Tuffe a toffee from the bag and then unwrapping one for himself.
“That sounds like a good plan, Smokey!" said Tuffe. "And very in keeping with the hygge theme!"

Misty Evergreen Forest
An unusually warm day has caused snow to melt on the hillside at the edge of the dense forest. A layer of mist hovers within the stately evergreens, shrouding any residents from our view.

@ Snowy Owl Solo
xiaolu shook his head from side to side. "My ears are ringing from the huskies barking!" he said.
“Yes, such an energetic, enthusiastic bunch! A fun ride, though!" replied Tuffe.

A single snowy owl sits motionless on the ground. Under normal winter conditions, it would be well-camouflaged but the absence of snow allows us to catch a rare glimpse of its beautiful pristine feathers.

@ Snowy Stillness
Tuffe opened his rucksack to find his hat. Skye could see Tuffe had a beret, a balaclava, a cricket cap, a Tam o' Shanter, a woolly bobble hat, a beanie, a deerstalker hat and a Peruvian chullo!
“Did you bring a Stetson too?” Skye asked Tuffe.

A fresh snowfall has brought a beautiful stillness over the landscape. Leafless trees now have a fresh adornment.

Look whoooo stopped by. The solo snowy owl's mate. Looks like we get a double treat of beautiful white feathers as this species of owl is commonly spotted in the daytime, unlike its brown cousins.

“Seeing these places makes me want to stay here and spend a week or two, Tuffe,” remarked Avalanche. "It looks so different!"
"Well, I guess that's the point of travel, isn't it?" said Tuffe. "To broaden your horizons and so on."

A faithful guardian sits at the ready to protect his territory. No critter may pass into his wintry realm without first getting by his watchful eye.

@ Making Tracks
“Last night's accommodation was amazing, Tuffe,” said VISHALI. "Those sofas! I'm looking forward to seeing where we'll stay tonight!"
"Me too!" replied Tuffe. "I'm certainly ready for a nice hot drink."

Making Tracks
A lone skier and an unidentified hooman make tracks in the freshly-fallen snow. The nearby building provides a shelter for any adventuresome passersby that need it.

Butterflies are a universal symbol of transformation and change, as no creature undergoes such an amazing metamorphosis as the caterpillar to butterfly. On a spiritual level the butterfly is associated with the soul and rebirth. These delicate frosty butterflies with their wings rimmed in violet are a true delight.

Anything you could possibly want for your hot cocoa is in this handy tray. I'm just going to pile mine high with marshmallows and a piece of dark chocolate candy.
