@ PnF Meeting House
Antie and Cat Blossom are excited to find out what is in store for them in the Autumn Experience! As they enter, they each receive a free map! It reads:
Autumn in Red
Fall foliage in striking hues of red and orange will be seen all around on this tour along the riverbank. Your pet can collect pine cones, sample wild berries and currants, view beautiful plants in purple and red, and perhaps spot some exotic birdlife! Everypet will enjoy lingering on the bridge to view the peaceful scene as the sun goes down turning the river pink as it does so ...
PnF Meeting House
Before we begin the journey we need to check-in here to pick up a trail map and some travel snacks. Be sure to sign the register with how many are in your travel party and how long you plan to be on the trail. Don't forget to take a potty break before you head out!

Episode 2/25

@ Sleepy River Sunrise
“What have you got in your tote bag, Ciaré?” asked Antie. “It looks very full!”
“I’ve come prepared for anything the weather can throw at us, Antie,” responded Ciaré. “There’s deck shoes, snowshoes, tennis shoes, flip-flops, flippers, walking boots, Wellington boots—you name them, I’ve got them!”

The sun is just beginning to illuminate the sky, casting a warm glow on the sleepy river and the sleepy pets in the village. We begin our journey early in the cool of the day as the PnF weatherpet has predicted an unusually warm autumn day ahead.

@ Sunrise Silhouette
While Antie stood drinking in the amazing view, Midnight Majesty searched in his backpack for his camera, eager to capture the scene!

As the sun continues to rise and the chill of the morning gives way, some of the hikers begin to shed their warm jackets and stuff them in their packs. A lone plant is dramatically silhouetted in the sun's golden light.

@ Autumn Stillness
Antie was in a hurry to move along and shake some more paws, but xiaolu decided to stay where he was for a while, and sketch the scenery for this week's Art Challenge!

As we behold the beauty of the golden leaves in the nearby trees, some clouds have rolled in, obscuring the sun for a bit. Some small fish in the river below are dining on insects that skim along the surface, creating little ripples on the calm water.

@ Orange Splendor
“I could stay here forever, Antie,” said Icy. “This is an amazing place!”
“Well, you never know what lies ahead, Icy. I wouldn't be surprised if the next stop is even better!” said Antie.

The glorious colors of autumn overflow in profusion along the trail prompting a chorus of 'oohs' and 'ahs' among the travelers. We pause and stare in rapturous awe for a moment before proceeding.

@ Ginger Root
“This reminds me of Meadowlands,” observed Antie, musing as she and Vinny the collector took a moment to admire the produce beside them. “Such a lovely, peaceful scene.”
Ginger Root
Ginger root is a well-known natural remedy for some common ailments. If you are prone to stomach upset and indigestion, nibbling on a small piece of raw ginger or drinking ginger tea can help alleviate your symptoms. But it is most useful on the journey as it helps your body to recover from muscle soreness after over-exertion. It will definitely come in handy today!

@ Japanese Maple in Orange

An important reminder when one is out on an adventure: remember to look up! There is so much beauty around us, we don't want to miss any of it, especially when it is something as wonderful as the sun's rays filtering through the orange leaves of this Japanese Maple tree.

Antie and Jasper shook paws, then looked around in awe, wishing they hadn’t already eaten their lunch! This was the most perfect place for a picnic!

See, glancing upward occasionally does have its benefits! As we continue along the trail we see a different variety of Japanese Maple, no less beautiful than the orange one. A treat to our eyes, this one is adorned in a fabulous crimson red.

@ Delightful Dahlia
“Isn’t this amazing, iddels?” declared Antie. “I’m seeing so many flowers and shrubs that I’ve never seen before!”

The PnF gardener has done a fabulous job landscaping along the trail. Pots of flowers have been placed throughout to display an array of vivid autumn colors. This deep pink hued dahlia is delightful!

“My uncle grows these in his back garden,” observed Antie.
“Wow! He must surely have green fingers!” replied queenielove.

@ Nectar Delight
“You know, Cicero said 'If you have a garden and a library you have everything you need',” mused Webbly.
"I don't think I've met Cicero," said Antie. "Is he on this tour?"

Be still and maybe it won't see you. Look over there on that red flower. It's a Micronesian Myzomela, and I almost didn't see it as it is somewhat camouflaged by the wispy red flowers it is sipping nectar from.

@ Red Berries
“I’m going to ask if I can take a cutting of this,” Audrey said to Antie. “This would look just fine in a half barrel in my front garden!”

@ Basket of Pine Cones
“This reminds me of Meadowlands,” observed Antie, musing as she and Valentino took a moment to admire the produce beside them. “Such a lovely, peaceful scene.”

According to the note attached to the basket, each of us is supposed to take a pine cone and plant the seeds in the designated area ahead. A park ranger will give us instructions when we get there. A pine forest covered in fresh snowfall is one of the most beautiful sights to see in winter. I'm happy to help add to that beauty!

@ Magnificent Maple
The quiet and serenity of the next scene made Antie and sammy feel like they were the only pets left in PnF Land ...

@ Autumn Rose Bouquet
"This is a glorious specimen, Flicka", observed Antie. "What a shame that in a month or so all this colour will be gone!"
"You know the best way to get colour in your garden all year, Antie?" said Flicka. "Buy a garden gnome!"

The unmistakable fragrance of roses captures my attention as I leave the wooded area. I look down to see a beautiful arrangement of autumn-hued roses in a white ceramic pot.

Antie and Peridot were entranced at reaching this stopping place and eagerly posed for a picture!

@ Shiny Redcurrant Berries
Inspired by the sunny day, Choose a name said, “Wouldn't it be fun to work on the harvest?”
Antie took a more pragmatic view. “You’d have to be up before dawn every day and work for 12 hours practically non-stop!”
Choose a name hastily revised her romantic harvest vision.

Wild redcurrants can be found all over the countryside. They look temptingly sweet to eat, but these shiny red berries are usually made into redcurrant jelly because of their tartness.

Growing on the side of the bridge is a mass of deep red and purple leafy vines. Deep blue berries hang in bunches just waiting to be eaten.

"How on earth do you identify what this is from the thousands of things it could be?" asked Twiggy.
"Well," said Antie, "you go through a checklist. Like what sort of leaves does it have, how are they arranged on the stem, do they have stalks, what's its habitat; that kind of thing. I'll lend you a book when we get home."

Two beautiful waterlily dahlias in a vase create the perfect simple, yet elegant look. The stunning large blooms need no other adornment.

Teasel weeds are a very common roadside plant. They look beautiful for being a weed, don't they? They are a favorite among crafters as they can be dried and painted any color. These lovely bi-color pink carnations pair perfectly with the purple painted teasels.

Lady Thea bent down to sniff the flower in front of her but recoiled hastily. “What’s up, Lady Thea?” asked Antie.
“There’s a huge bumblebee on it!” said Lady Thea.

A sea of red leaves act as the perfect backdrop to showcase yet another patch of little blue berries. I'm not hungry so I'll leave these for another traveler.

Antie is enjoying the Autumn Experience when Pavo comes along. "Look! A special prize!" says Pavo. Antie looks down and sees something valuable. Pavo generously lets Antie keep it!
