The first painted eggs came from Mesopotamia, and because eggs were forbidden food during Lent, people painted eggs while Lent was being observed—after Lent, they would eat the eggs on Easter Day.

Beautifully decorated eggs “pysanka” are associated with Ukraine, and the oldest painted egg that was unearthed in northern Ukraine is dated to the end of the 17th century.

swinger glanced up from his tour guide, in which he had been looking up where they were going the next day. “How come you're so hungry, B. Ugger?”
B. Ugger pouted. "I was just unwrapping my lunch pack when a creature ran down the tree behind me, grabbed the lot and shot back up the tree!"
"Bad luck!" sympathised swinger. "Here, have a banana to keep you going."

Waddling in the cool waters off the coast of South Africa, dressed up in their best black tie, the little penguins keep a sharp eye out on the waves, you never know when you'll have a surprise visitor!

Woolly joined in B. Ugger's heartless laughter. “He was still brushing bits of nettle out of his fur when we went for lunch!”

“Ooh, it's just starting to get a bit cool, B. Ugger!” said Snowball. “Can you hold my map and itinerary while I dig out my scarf?"
B. Ugger good-naturedly took charge of Snowball's possessions while she emptied her rucksack of a pack of sandwiches wrapped in greaseproof paper, a Thermos flask, a pair of galoshes, a bag of chocolate peanuts, a paperback thriller, a bottle of orange squash, an address book, some postage stamps, an assortment of different coloured biros, a bottle opener, a couple of old bus tickets, a handful of golden and silver moles, a door key, some very old receipts, a screwdriver, a bottle of multivitamins, a lottery ticket and a selection of rather battered sachets of salt, sugar and salad cream before locating the scarf right at the bottom. This she donned and then B. Ugger helped her put everything back in her rucksack.

Rainbow was distracted by the sounds of loud rustling as B. Ugger unfolded a very large tourist map, in the course of which it succeeded in knocking Rainbow’s sunhat off.
“Put that away, do!” said Rainbow, in some irritation. “We’re about to pose with this amazing creature—the picture will be of your map if you don’t fold it up pronto!”

gemma shielded her eyes and rotated 360°, elaborately scanning the horizon. “I don’t think they’ve thought to provide a postbox here, B. Ugger. How remiss of them!” Seeing B. Ugger’s ears beginning to droop, gemma added, “Don’t worry, you can give your card to reception at the hotel to post.”

Translucent in color, these colorful creatures anchor themselves to the roots and rocks in the warm waters in the Indian River. Just don't startle them, they don't respond well!
