Lilla and Allegra are excited to find out what is in store for them in the Autumn Experience! As they enter, they each receive a free map! It reads:
Autumn in Purple
A country ramble awaits the pets and after exploring woodland paths, a small settlement will be found. At the spice store they will find cinnamon, chillies, star anise and chestnuts, plus purple flowers for perfumery. They will skirt a small lake before seeing a host of pink and purple-hued flowers and plants. Don't forget to grab an apple or two to munch as you head out onto the next stage of our tour!
Scarlet Pathway
As we begin our journey we are welcomed by a wonderful scarlet pathway. With the vivid canopy above, the crunchy leaves under our feet, and the sun-kissed trees on the side of the trail, we anticipate what beauty lies ahead.

Episode 2/25

@ Illusion of Nightfall
“Let’s pose with one of us at each side and I’ll set the self-timer to take a shot,” said Lilla to Valentino. “It’ll be a wonderful souvenir of our time here!”

Proceeding along the trail something unexpected happens right away. The canopy becomes so dense it gives the illusion of impending nightfall. The light beckons you ahead.

@ Undulating Road
Lilla normally avoided tourist hotspots but she was glad she had come, especially since meeting her friend Starlite here!

The light leads us to the remnants of a paved gently undulating road shrouded with trees just beginning to lose their leaves. We wonder what pets have journeyed through here in times gone by.

@ Autumn Rice Field
"Wasn’t it worth coming all this way, Lilla," said Max, "for this experience alone?" Lilla, admiring the scene they were now in, heartily agreed!

This journey is definitely full of surprises! One never knows what to expect as they round the bend of life and this rice field is the perfect example. Who knew rice could grow here in the cool autumn temperatures?

@ Sunlight Road
While Lilla paused to enjoy the view, Wuzzy started scrabbling in his rucksack for his portable, folding camping chair. “What are you doing with that, Wuzzy?” asked Lilla. “We’ll need to get going in a minute or we’ll be left behind!”

The undulating road has smoothed out and we are bathed in the warm rays of sunshine as they illuminate the path ahead and the glory of the autumn leaves.

@ Wild Blueberries
“Great to meet you again, rainbow cookie!” said Lilla. “Come and have some of this farm-grown organic food—it’s absolutely yummy!”

Just as your tummy begins to rumble you spot these deeply colored wild blueberries in the brush beside the trail. The color is much deeper than the berries you have seen at the market and your mouth begins to water. Perfect timing and oh-so-refreshing!

@ Fresh Chestnuts
“I hope we can buy more of this at our local farmer's market,” observed Lilla, as she and unie tucked into a delicious food sample!

As soon as my eyes catch the sight of these baskets of freshly harvested chestnuts, washed and ready to purchase, a familiar song gets stuck in my head. Is it too early to sing Christmas carols?

@ Vision in Violet
"I think I'll take a cutting of the plant in that tub over there," said Lilla. The label says it's 'vigorous' and 'fearless'."

Pets who love the color purple will be captivated by the intense color of this gorgeous violet flower. The vendor claims it will last for weeks as a cut flower so no reason to leave without buying a bouquet.

@ Cinnamon Sticks and Star Anise
“I’m going to try growing these at home!” announced Lilla, after she and Murgatroyd the Malevolent had tucked into some yummy organic harvest food!

Nothing smells like autumn like the aroma of hot spiced apple cider. Combine cinnamon sticks, star anise, oranges studded with whole cloves, brown sugar, allspice, nutmeg, and apple cider into a pot and steep them all together for a favorite fall drink.

"Ada, was that last one we looked at a thorn bush with roses? Or a rose bush with thorns?" asked Lilla.

Tester 3 and Lilla counted out their silver moles and bought some of the harvest food. “That one wins first prize for me!” declared Tester 3.

“Isn’t this amazing, Ms Stinkerbelle?” declared Lilla. “I’m seeing so many flowers and shrubs that I’ve never seen before!”

@ Log Cabin in the Woods
Lilla and Misty Anne pooled their silver moles, hoping to buy a small souvenir or two to remind them of this beautiful place!

Ahhh, here it is, our lodging for tonight. We came upon this log cabin just in time as I need to stop and rest awhile. This cozy cabin in the woods looks so warm and inviting. We should get a good night's sleep in this peaceful spot! I do hope they have a porch swing to relax on!

Lacey and Lilla shook paws and then they both admired the magnificent floral display beside them.

What an extremely rare sight! I bet you didn't know there was a variety of lilacs that blooms in the fall. Well, there is! It's called Josee Reblooming Lilac. Lilacs, not just for spring anymore!

"This is a glorious specimen, NightGhost", observed Lilla. "What a shame that in a month or so all this colour will be gone!"
"You know the best way to get colour in your garden all year, Lilla?" said NightGhost. "Buy a garden gnome!"

“I’ve written a postcard to Mrs Eucalyptus about this amazing Autumn Experience!” said Lilla. “She’ll wish she were here! Where’s the nearest postbox?”
Cherish Scrappy Demure shielded its eyes and rotated 360°, elaborately scanning the horizon. “I don’t know how it comes about, but they appear not to have thought to provide a postbox here, Lilla. How remiss of them!” Seeing Lilla’s ears beginning to droop, Cherish Scrappy Demure added, “Don’t worry, you can post your card after this leg of the Experience!”

As daylight fades into darkness the earth is bathed in soft pink and purple diffused hues. An old white picket fence stands guard as it has for years.

@ Candle and Purple Flower
“What’s this flower called?” Lilla said to Snickerdoodle. “Er—I only know the Latin name for it,” said Snickerdoodle and hastily changed the subject.

@ Purple Leaf with Raindrops
"How on earth do you identify what this is from the thousands of things it could be?" asked Pony Pony.
"Well," said Lilla, "you go through a checklist. Like what sort of leaves does it have, how are they arranged on the stem, do they have stalks, what's its habitat; that kind of thing. I'll lend you a book when we get home."

“You know, Cicero said 'If you have a garden and a library you have everything you need',” mused MooCow.
"I don't think I've met Cicero," said Lilla. "Is he on this tour?"

The sun has come out and a rare warm autumn breeze has dried up the raindrops on the leaf so now you can see what the rest of the purple-leaved plant looks like.

@ Apple Harvest
Inspired by the sunny day, Jaylee said, “Wouldn't it be fun to work on the harvest?”
Lilla took a more pragmatic view. “You’d have to be up before dawn every day and work for 12 hours practically non-stop!”
Jaylee hastily revised her romantic harvest vision.

@ Pink Poinsettia Flowers
"I wish I knew more about horticulture, bielzibub" said Lilla. "Sometimes I can't tell if something's a plant or a weed!"
"Oh, there's a sure-fire way of telling the difference, Lilla! Pull on it—if it comes out of the ground easily, it's a really valuable plant.”

Pale pink and dark purple leaves make this a quite dramatic poinsettia plant! And no, it's not too early to think about poinsettias because if we want them to look like this they need to be placed into a dark room several months before Christmas so that the leaves change colors.

@ Feathery Plumes in Pink
Lilla opened her rucksack to change her hat. Icicle could see Lilla had a baseball cap, a sombrero, a beret, a straw boater, a cricket cap, a sou'wester, a large, floppy sunhat and a pith helmet!
“Did you bring a mortarboard too?” Icicle asked Lilla.
Feathery Plumes in Pink
Soft and wispy, like a daydream, these delicate-looking flowers are anything but that. They are actually a sturdy wildflower, blooming all summer long through the end of autumn.

@ Autumn in Purple
Lilla is enjoying the Autumn Experience when Snarky comes along. "Look! A special prize!" says Snarky. Lilla looks down and sees something valuable. Snarky generously lets Lilla keep it!
